You need to make sure your photos are properly size to use in Final Cut or DVD SP. There is a general rule your size should not exceed 2000x2000. But this is insanely large and will gum up your timeline. Me...I prefer to size them to DV specs. It is not that simple though. Because digital photos are made up of square pixels and DV is rectangular pixels you need to make your photos slightly stretched to look appropriate in FCP or DVDSP. You can do this in the following manner. (This is just one way, and perhaps a bit long winded. I suggest to invent a way that works best for you if you think this is dumb)!

Go to File, and down to New.

This is the PS 7.0 program, the newer CS program is sized a bit differently but look for the NTSC DV/DVD lable.

You have a new PS doc. Set this aside and open the photo you want to covert

Go to File, and down to Open.

Find your photo.

When you open it go to Image and then to Image Size.

I usually make my new image size a bit bigger than 720 wide to allow me to position it better in FCP or to make it look better in DVDSP.

Using the keyboard shortcut of Apple key + a you select the entire document and then use the keyboard shortcut Apple key + c to copy the document.

Using the keyboard shortcut of Apple key + v to paste the photo into the NEW file (the one you set for DV NTSC.

Then go to File, then Save As.

You can name the file here, and choose the format, a jpeg will flatten the image, Use PSD if you want to maintain the layers. Then you click on Save and import the newly prepared file into your project!
