Even with your fancy pants digital still camera, the images can look all wanky. Setting your levels can really help your images to pop. Setting levels is easy...

Go to Image, and down to Adjustments and then to Levels.

Moving the triangles indicated by the red arrows will give you better results with your image. I will usually move the black and the white toward the center, adjusting the mid as it pleases the eye. See for yourself..

Here is the original photo with the levels as it was imported. By moving the black and white triangles, it begins to look better...see below.
